Accra Flooding Initiative

#WorldWaterDay is about taking action to tackle the water crisis.Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. PMWB is working with communities in Ghana to tackle lingering floods in the Greater Accra Region which result in casualties and impact tens of thousands of lives annually.

Where is Accra?

  • Coastal region occupying 1.4 per cent of the total land area of Ghana
  • Home of the capital city of Ghana
  • The second most populated region, home to approximately 4,000,000 residents
In 2015, annual flooding resulted in 200 casualties and impacted 46,300 lives

The Accra Flooding Initiative...

is a partnership between PMWB and the Ghana branch of the Project Management Institute to tackle the lingering floods in the Greater Accra Region. By mid-2017, the team is expecting to complete a Master Action Plan, detailing the main causes of the floods in Accra along with a remediation plan.
